NRFI Picks Today: Mets Offense Owns Ryne Nelson

What's better than starting the week with two winning NRFI picks today? Well, to be exact, it's a NRFI pick in the Padres-Yanks game, and a YRFI for what could be an explosive first inning in Arizona.

Padres vs Yankees Odds -- 7:05 pm ET

The big bad Yankees are a force on the YRFI this year (20-14), but I'm risking a NRFI here, first because the Padres offense has wilted over the last two weeks, posting a .596 OPS, which ranks 24th in MLB. Because of this, the Padres own an 18-15 NRFI record. Yankees starter Carlos Rodon also holds active Padres hitters to a .207 BA and a sub-.600 OPS. Satisfied?

Padres starter Nick Pivetta is 6-0 NRFI this season, and it'll be a gamble that this holds. Pivetta has struggled against Aaron Judge (2 HRs) and Paul Goldschmidt (1 HR) in his career, so the right-hander must proceed delicately. In the end, I'm more in favor of the NRFI pick, but it could get hairy in the bottom half of the inning.

Mets vs Diamondbacks Odds -- 9:40 pm ET

The books are onto me here, but I think the YRFI bet is still worth it. While the Mets have been baseball's best NRFI team this season, the D-backs are a YRFI-dominant squad (19-15), and in this case, the pitching splits are so egregious that it would be hard for me to recommend anything other than this pick.

Mets starter Griffin Canning has been smooth on the NRFI (6-0) and has held the D-backs in check (.489 OPS) in his career. His counterpart, Ryne Nelson, has not bottled up the Mets. In fact, he's been downright awful vs New York. Nelson will now make his first start of the season against a Mets squad that has torched him for a 1.205 OPS in 75 at-bats. The Mets are slugging .827 against him with an impressive nine homers, including three from Pete Alonso and two from Juan Soto. Alonso and Francisco Lindor have an OPS north of 1.800 vs Nelson. Sheesh.
