who is favored to win the men's french open?

Since the turn of the century, a Spaniard has claimed the French Open title 17 times in the last 24 years. While Rafael Nadal dominated with 16 of those victories, now it’s Carlos Alcaraz’s turn to carry on the Spanish legacy. He defeated Italy's Zeppieri in three-straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-2) in the opening round of the tournament. Since then, he has dropped one set in the following two matchups.

Though notably the 21-year-old has been managing an injury, receiving treatment on his upper leg during his loss to Holger Rune in the Barcelona Final in April. It eventually led him to withdraw from the Madrid Open to focus on regaining full health for the Grand Slam. The lingering injury could be responsible for dropping a set in the second round and have him hesitant to slide on the clay.

Alcaraz has secured two titles since last year, including a clay victory at the ATP Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo and a win in Rotterdam earlier this February. Now, he meets in Lorenzo Musetti in the semi-final.

who is favored to win the women's french open?

Sabalenka is the world No. 1 and top seed at Roland-Garros this time around. She's 34-6 this year and has already picked up three titles, including a rare Miami-Madrid double that hasn't been done since Serena in 2013. The 27-year-old is also 7-1 against top-10 players, with the exception of falling to Zheng in Rome.

In the first-round, the Belarusian cruised through straight sets and gave up just one game to her opponent (6-1, 6-0). She's kept the momentum, having not dropped a set in five rounds through the tournament.

Now, she meets the defending champ in the semi-final. With Iga Swiatek having failed to lift a trophy in the last year and Sabalenka playing some of her best tennis, she's poised to win her first French Open.
